Project Description

My design for a young teenage girl's bedroom incorporates pattern, colour and texture in a harmonious way that will keep it's appeal as she grows up.

Teenage girl's bedroom design

The colour palette for this room is radicchio red, light pink, white and black. The strong Radicchio red (Farrow & Ball) was used on a portion of the side wall and matched to 'Rocking Horse' clever velvet by Loaf for the upholstered bed. This was complimented with Farrow & Ball's Tailor Tack on the walls, which I chose instead of a white as I wanted the light in the space to be soft and flattering. White appears in the bedside drawers, bedding and comfy chair. While black accents on the lights, drawer handles, organic shaped mirror and radiator provide a strong contrast to keep the room from being saccharine.

The bed is the Puffball from Loaf and the bedside drawers are from Roseland. The simple shape of the drawer units and the fact they are made from metal with black pull handles keeps the look young and modern. Pendant lights with domed shades hang to either side of the bed, and give the bed area a soft glow. These are the opaline pumpkin glass shades from Pooky. The wooden slat wall breaks up this side of the room and frames the bed. It also provides textural interest and warmth from the oak-stain.

Further wood slat panelling appears in the alcoves to the sides of the original chimney breast. This creates depth and interest in those areas which looked flat when only painted. White shelves are hung on the larger side providing space for decorative items and momentos. This is an effective way to personalise the room and the treasures on display can evolve as the teenager grows up.

In this corner sits a comfy, pumpkin chair from Welai Concept, which is ideal for reading, scrolling or relaxing. Lastly I placed a floor-standing lamp in the corner made from black metal and opaline orbs from Lampsy.

This teenager loves her new bedroom design and has enjoyed making the space her own by hanging the ivy decoration and making a collage wall of postcards. This bedroom leads to a short corridor with built in wardrobes to one side and then on into her bathroom. I also designed the bathroom, which you can read about here.
