Project Description

The brief for this guest bathroom was; Art Deco, luxury hotel, green and gold. The existing layout of a separate bathroom and WC was knocked into one, meaning I had a generous-sized room to transform into a luxury Art Deco bathroom. Everything Art Deco appeals to me, and used as a bathroom theme its elegant and stylish lines have plenty of potential to create a beautiful bathroom.

Pattern & Colour Scheme

The client expressed an interest in wallpaper and as this is a guest bathroom with plenty of ventilation, I started there. I presented three options on the green and gold theme, with matching tile and paint selections. Happily Gershwing from Divine Savages in the Parakeet colourway was the winner and I paired this with a matte emerald tile. Tiling was done in an offset vertical brick pattern and a gold-toned grout was used to match the brushed brass fixtures.

Fixtures and Fittings

The sink and toilet are from the Astoria range at Imperial Bathrooms. They boast elegant lines and a smart appearance. Adding a brass-plated stand for the sink gives a luxury feel and provides hanging space for a hand towel. Now, let's talk taps! The Gessi Venti20 range was selected for this bathroom to give an unparalleled touch, smooth operation and beautiful finish in brushed brass. To me, these fittings are the emodiment of a luxury Art Deco bathroom!

Completing the sink area is a gold bamboo frame mirror from Graham & Green and Claremont wall lights from Corston Architectural. The lights either side of the mirror create a pleasing symmetry that met the client's brief for a luxury hotel feel.

Gold Gives the Wow Factor

Ramping up the wow factor, and reflecting the glamorous side of Art Deco, the Galleon bath from Hurlingham is finished in hand-applied gold leaf. This provides light and drama to the lower part of the room, which is clad in one third height wood panelling painted in a colour match to the tiles. The gold bath is equisite and reflects beautifully in the gloss white porcelain tiles with gold marble veining laid on the floor. These were not expensive tiles, but laid beautifully as the wet room area of the shower, they elevate this space to an impressive luxury level.

Finally, to give privacy and options to have them open, partially open or closed, the windows are fitted with Luxaflex shutters.

A Price Worth Paying

This luxury Art Deco bathroom is a top-end project in terms of the fixtures and fittings that were chosen and the level of craftsmanship in the installation. The design fee for this bathroom was only 1.5% of the total cost of this project, yet without the overall design and its attention to detail, the end result would not be so magnificent.
