Project Description

View of a luxurious contemporary bathroom with atmospheric blue grey wall tiles, blue double vanity and large shower enclosure

Believe it or not, this bathroom is an en suite! At nearly 3m², it’s spacious enough to be a bedroom, yet it serves as a generous en suite for the master bedroom. The key to this luxurious bathroom is the atmospheric tiles. They give the room depth and texture, as well as real wow factor!

Shower Wall

My clients wanted a large showering area with a wet-room tiled floor, so they opted to exclude a bath. Consequently, this opened up space for a double vanity along one wall and a 2.8m-long shower area on the opposite side. This is framed with a Drench Showers screen from their Border range.

This home has concrete floors upstairs, so Kirt at Surefit Installations resolved the drainage issue by creating a small dias for the shower area. The platform neatly squares off at the window and incorporates a drying area with a heated towel rail.

Under the bay window, the large, original boxed-out section contained only a waste pipe. With clever framing, Kirt created a wall that follows the bay window’s contours. He included two lit niches for low-level lighting and toiletries storage. The centrally placed toilet now feels more enclosed, thanks to the angled walls that wrap around it.

Vanity Wall

My clients love blue tones, so for this design I drew inspiration from the sea and sky. I found the Ca Pietra Himalaya tiles which feature a dramatic blend of marbling and stone effects. They create a beautiful, atmospheric feeling in this bathroom. The blue grey option is used on the shower and vanity walls and balanced with the cream option on the floor and other walls.

In order to make optimum use of the vanity area, a 1400mm wide double vanity was ordered from GSI's Pura range. We could specify the colour so it worked in harmony with the wall tiles. The HiB arched mirrors reflect arched panes in the client's downstairs internal doors and add some softness to the room.

The shower and taps are the high quality Absolute range from Swadling Brassware, a UK business. I chose the Brushed Nickel—a finish that’s more refined than chrome but less gold than brass. The towel rail and shower screen are in matching finishes to complete the look.

My clients have been living in this home since it was built, and the bathroom was tired and not functioning well for them. It was a pleasure to upgrade this room and create a luxurious bathroom with atmospheric tiles for them. Now they have a sophisticated, elegant space ready for the next 20 years!
