Project Description
When you look around a room and feel blagh, it's time for a colour scheme refresh. This client from Redhill came to me with a brief to update the colours, curtain fabrics and carpet in their home. It had been a long while since it was decorated and they wanted an updated design scheme to smarten the house up.
Their brief to me was very specific in terms of design style; they like the early 1900s designs of Louis Comfort Tiffany - and had already selected the wall lamps for the lounge (seen above). They wanted me to find curtain fabric that reflected this style and a colour scheme which incorporated green. Part of the brief was to source new sofas, but the rest of the furniture was staying, so I needed to work with it.
Colour Scheme Creation
Pulling all these design and colour influences together into a cohesive scheme took some thinking. Firstly the request for chartreuse green walls had to be paired down and I chose Willow Creek 5 from Dulux for the walls. The curtains were the next element to join the scheme. I found a suitably Art Deco-with-Tiffany-influence pattern called Mackintosh Prussian in a mid-weight velvet. I had made to measure curtains produced by Just Fabrics for both windows.
Creating harmony in the scheme, I chose to pick up the blue/green shade from the curtains for the Ambleside sofa from Sofology in Peacock. With the honey-oak furniture staying I knew we needed a wam neutral for the carpet. We chose this cream option from the Durham Twists Naturals collection to be laid throughout. Finishing the scheme smartly are the wrought iron curtain poles and hold backs by Cameron Fuller.
All the woodwork in this home was very discoloured with old paint, and so whitening up the hall, stairs and landing has made a big impact. We settled on Dulux Heritage Cream for the wall paint in this area which makes a beautiful contrast with the lighter carpet and smart white woodwork.
Bedroom Colour Schemes
The colour scheme for the guest bedroom followed on nicely from the landing. The pine furniture was staying in here, and I knew a blue element would work well with that. Preferring not to have blue on the walls, we decided on the Golden Ivory paint by Dulux Heritage which is a really pleasing partner to the pine. The blue came into play with the curtain fabric I found, which is more jazz-age 1920s, and is a stylized graphic pattern called Gatzby. It comes in multiple colourways, but this version in Plaza is stunning. Again Just Fabrics sewed the made to measure curtains.
Photos from the main bedroom redecoration are to follow, once the final curtains are in place.

The new colour scheme, curtains and carpets have really transformed this home. To a tight design brief and using cost-effective high street services and stores, I have helped the home owners to update and improve their living spaces.
Design Scheme Service
This client asked for high street options for all the elements of their design scheme. This is a way I commonly work with clients. After creating the design scheme and presenting it to you, I create a shopping list of the items included. You can then purchase these as and when you are ready.
If you wish, I can also include a project management fee in my scope of work. As an example, for this intallation the project management fee covered;
- Measuring and assisting in the ordering of the curtains
- Booking the Track Man to fit rails and hang the curtains
- Arranging the carpet company to measure and fit
- Liaising with the painter/decorator on timings and paint colours.
The project management fee will reflect the number of hours needed for your scheme, and will be tailored exactly to your needs. If you'd like to find out more about any of my services, please get in touch on 07596 533086 by phone or message. Alternatively you can complete the Contact form here.
