Project Description

This client experienced a big Drab to Fab transformation! The bathroom in this home hadn't been renovated for a long time, so it was time for a clean-lined and smart bathroom update.

Firstly the old bath was removed and an easy-access shower enclosure was intalled. Due to the concrete floor we weren't able to make the shower tray completely flush to the floor. However it is now much easier for the owner to access than climbing into a bath. We rotated the orientation of the shower and placed it on the long wall. This created more room for showering and space for a flap down shower seat on the short wall.

Previously, the toilet and basin area featured a run of home-made wooden cupboards, which were looking the worse for wear. We smartened things up with a comfort height toilet (slightly higher than a regular toilet, to help those with mobility issues) and a wall hung vanity. I chose a vanity with two drawers to replace some of the lost storage and went for a dark blue finish to add some colour interest. Additionally a mirrored cabinet with light and charging socket gives further storage.

The tile selection achieved the aim of creating a clean-lined and smart bathroom, without breaking the bank. Both chosen from the budget end of the tile spectrum, the grey patterened floor tiles and the marble-effect porcelain wall tiles add interest to the space so it doesn't feel clinical.

The client was specific that she would like individual hot and cold taps with a central mixer. I selected the Crosswater Belgravia taps. These feature smart levers which can be easily operated with arthritic hands and they give a traditional accent to the design.

This client was somewhat daunted by the thought of a bathroom renovation, which is completely understandable when it requires a complete strip out and re-fit. However, she is very happy that she went ahead and is now enjoying the benefits of her new bathroom.
