Project Description
I fell in love with the William Morris Folly tile by Ca Pietra as soon as it was launched. My client in Guildford was the perfect match for this tile. She loves the Arts & Crafts movement, Liberty print fabrics and gardening. I knew a modern take on Art Nouveau would suit her home so well. Read on to see how I combined a separate bathroom and toilet into this beautiful Art Nouveau William Morris bathroom.

Structural work
Firstly, the existing toilet and separate bathroom needed to be combined to form one larger space. We also created a new doorway to the bathroom so that we maximised the floor space within. Kirt from Surefit Installations did another stellar job on all the work delivered in this renovation.
William Morris tiles
The beautiful Sand colourway of the Folly tile includes light blues, greys and a hint of olivey chartreuse. This creates a pleasing level of visual interest in the room through the entwining, leafy flourishes on the tile. Being hexagonal prevents the tile from being historical and moves it right into the present day. I chose to tile the floor and up to the window behind the bath to create a sense of drama and to set off the Waters of Ashbourne Natura free standing bath. Creating a skirting board around the room by cutting across the widest part of the tile finishes the walls smartly.

Fixtures and fittings
There is an element of future proofing in this bathroom as I selected a comfort height toilet for this client and we added a sturdy grab rail to the bath area. All the fixtures and fittings are in a sophisticated brushed nickel finish, with the taps from Swadling Brassware’s Illustrious range and the towel rail from The Sussex Range. These worked perfectly to add to the design style of an Art Nouveau William Morris bathroom.
Vanity and mirror
I chose a Heritage Bathrooms Lynton wall hung vanity in dove grey to co-ordinate with the tiles and provide plenty of storage. I added an oval mirror above with white kit kat tiled splashback for a modern touch. Painting the room in Little Greene’s Rolling Fog Pale has added to the serene, calm feel. The client has finished the room with olive green towels and a woven wall hanging.

This was a very rewarding project to complete. Bringing these two rooms together into a beautiful modern bathroom that is comfortable to use and a pleasure to be in means another happy client!
