Project Description
I had carte blanche to create this striking tropical design theme in a client's drab and dated en suite. Extensive old-style country cottage tiling and a clunky built-in shower cubicle made way for a light-bright design that provides a 'wow' moment as you enter from the bedroom and reflects the client's love of plants.
I discovered the verdant jungle tile mural by Vernissage and knew this had to be the focal point of the room. To make this happen, I switched the location of the sink and the shower so that the striking tiles were the first thing you see when you enter the en suite. I opened up the unnecessary boxing above the old sink to create the height for the shower which also allowed more of the room to benefit from the light from the Velux window. I chose a lush emerald green tile for the adjacent shower wall to compliment the mural, and a dark slate-effect shower tray.
The large sink and double-drawer vanity benefit from a large illuminated mirror above and now sit better opposite the toilet nook. The modern, curved back-to-wall bath is underneath the Velux so you can enjoy the sky while bathing. The room is finished with a cane-fronted black wooden linen cupboard evoking the colonial explorer vibe.
As the room is so light, I chose LVT in a dark wood for the floor to provide contrast to the white painted walls.
The clients chose to put dark green glass splashbacks above the sink and bath, and finished the room perfectly with a collection of plants in macrame hangers.
