Coastline-inspired family bathroom new shower

Project Description

This family bathroom was drab and overwhelmingly white when I first saw it. The fixtures were out of date and there were wasted spaces in areas of the room. Adjacent to the bathroom was an airing cupboard with a very old boiler. The family were planning to replace the boiler so this was re-situated in the loft giving space for a generous 1m square shower cubicle with access from the bathroom.

Coastline-inspired family bathroom

The family love being by the sea, so I knew the coastline should inspire the design. I found these metro tiles in deep blue 'ocean' and soft beige tones of 'sand' and thought they would be the perfect fit (Anya tiles from Topps Tiles). The shower cubicle is tiled in the ocean blue and the sand tiles provide a splashback for the bath and sink area, both set in a herringbone pattern. I also decided to tile the side of the bath to continue the application of tonal colour and give the room some 'wow' factor.

The generous sink with double drawer storage space was re-situated to allow for the access to the shower cubicle with a tall towel rail fixed next to it. Moving the sink and closing up the gap between the toilet and bath made better use of the floorspace in the room.

This family bathroom is finished with warm oak LVT and chrome fixtures to give a Scandi spa-like feel. A new window was also installed as part of the work.
