Project Description

The theme for this bathroom is Tutti Frutti! Although this home is largely cottage-style, the owners are young at heart and stylish, and enjoy travelling to the Mediterranean. The guest bathroom was unfinished from the original build and was in need of smartening up. An Italian Terrazzo-style tile with blue and tan fleck brings colour and interest to the space, while the polished white background provides the desired smartening up. Using modern matte black fixtures and fittings finished this terrazzo bathroom nicely.

There was also a construction element to this bathroom renovation as the clients decided to make this an en suite for their main guest bedroom. To do this a new doorway was created in the side wall and the landing door blocked up. So that the new door didn't open onto the toilet this was switched with the sink, so the sink takes centre stage. The door change also allowed us to move the towel rail along the wall so it is easier to access.

The shower stayed in the same position as this maximised the height and space for showering. A templated glass panel with door was installed with black fittings.

One of my favourite details of this terrazzo bathroom is the built out wall section. For functional purposes it gives added head height at the sink - but it also allows for a handy shelf to run the length of the room, and see how it continues right into the shower cubicle with a lit recess for toiletries. Bellissimo!

A 2-drawer vanity provides plenty of storage and choosing the wood effect for the drawers picked up the tan in the tiles. Consequently, the other colour featured in the tiles - the blue - is reflected in the Amtico floor tiles. This flooring gives a modern look and purposefully does not replicate the wood flooring which is found elsewhere in the house.

Both the clients and myself are so pleased with how this bathroom turned out. It's ready for use by family and friends and has transformed a disused space into a stylish, modern bathroom with renewed purpose.

We have now used Katherine from Drab to Fab Design for the makeover of 2 bathrooms. Each time we've been blown away by her quality and professionalism. From the outset, she talked to us about what type of room design we had in mind and then came back to us with genuinely inspiring and innovative designs. These were fully costed and programmed so that before we signed up to work we knew exactly what budget we required and the level of disruption we would face.

Katherine - and Kirt (who is also an absolute star) - made sure that the work was delivered on time, to budget and to an impeccable quality standard. Even when unexpected issues arose, which they will on any building job, these were swiftly sorted out on our behalf. We felt in very safe hands throughout and we will certainly be using Drab to Fab Designs again on our next project. I would heartily recommend their services for anyone looking to inject some flair and style into their house.
